I am back! Here is my first update from Paris. The days after my US Open victory have been intensive. Sleeping, relaxing, shutting down – that’s what was important after returning from the US. I had two small parties, I really enjoyed the time with my family after my first Grand Slam victory. And again I would like to say “thank you“ to my fans: thanks for your support, thanks for the nice wishes and many comments on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Since Wednesday I have been preparing for the French Open, as a special lucky charm I have a special symbol on my racket bag: my racket company Babolat printed my name, the Austrian flag and a 2020 star on my bag. This star stands for my victory in New York – basically the hallmark for my first Major trophy.
There is no discussion, I am really proud of it.
It is a trip from one bubble to the other.
Here in Paris security is the most important issue as well. Just as in New York we are only allowed to commute from the hotel to the tennis center. At least we will have a small crowd at Roland Garros, we will surely like the cheers. At least we won’t feel completely alone on the court.
On Monday I will start my seventh French Open, I cannot talk about luck regarding the draw. I am playing Marin Cilic. The Croatian has won 18 tournaments, one of them the US Open 2014. Marin has the gene of a champion, I will be prepared for a big fight on court. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
