HOLA

MADRID!

It feels great to be back in my tennis world. Since Friday I have been preparing for my first match since March 16, I’ll play at the ATP-1000 on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I have great memories for Madrid. In 2014 I had my first victory against a top-10-star, Stan Wawrinka. I reached the final in 2017 and in 2018. What do I expect this year? Well, I can’t tell you anything on that! My break has been too long, I had been completely away from tennis, match situations feel totally different. For sure is that I have been working quite well for the last couple of days, physically I feel fit, my tennis is on top. However, I’m looking forward to it and feel ready and can barely wait for my first match in Madrid.

In Spain’s capital life is on again, the cafes and restaurants are open and it is busy in the streets. Though I only notice this on my way from the hotel to the venue, we still live in that kind of bubble, get tested several times, we are only allowed to move from the hotel to the stadium and back. Little has changed for us, at least it seems to be getting better here in Madrid after the pandemic crisis.

As for the conditions: it is quite cold for the time of the year, but I can’t wait to get back on the court.

All the best!

Yours,
